What we do

Spread the Swell is a non-profit that addresses the social inequalities of outdoor recreation by offering free surf instruction for underprivileged youth. Using surf therapy, our organization improves the self-confidence and communication abilities of disadvantaged children in a safe environment. Through small-group discussion and a natural connection to the ocean, Spread the Swell instills both an appreciation for our planet’s natural beauty and a desire to preserve it. Over the past 8 years, we have had the ability to make an impact on the lives of nearly 120 children. With plans to create local chapters throughout the country, our organizational structure maximizes impact and minimizes logistical headaches for local volunteers eager to give back. Together, united under a common goal, we strive for a better planet, and surfing brings us together.
